The 7th South American Women's Football Championship ( Spanish Copa América Femenina ) took place in Ecuador from September 11 to 28, 2014 . Ecuador hosted the tournament for the second time and achieved the best result so far with third place. Brazil was able to successfully defend its title. The tournament also served as a qualifier for the 2015 World Cup in Canada , the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto . Colombia qualified together with Brazil for the World Cup and as the second South American team for the Olympic Games. Ecuador was also able to qualify for the World Cup in the playoff games against CONCACAF representatives Trinidad and Tobago , while Argentina , who defeated tournament winners Brazil in the preliminary round, could only qualify for the Pan American games.

Mode and participants

The ten participating teams were divided into two groups of five teams each as part of a draw. Within the groups, each team played each other once. There were three points for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. The first two teams in each group reached the final round, where each team met each other once again. Here, too, there were three points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.

The first two teams in the final round are directly qualified for the world championship. The third will play playoffs against the fourth of the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup 2014 . The tournament winner qualified for the Olympic football tournament. As Brazil won the tournament, the runner-up Colombia moves up. The four teams in the final round qualified for the Pan American Games.
