Games at the World Cup
Venues |
When the groups were drawn, the South Koreans were not seeded and were drawn to group E with South American champions Brazil. The newcomers to the World Cup Costa Rica and Spain were drawn as further opponents. South Korea had only played three games against Brazil before the World Cup, one of which was won and two lost. South Korea had never played against the other two teams. South Korea and Spain had to deal with the smallest distance between the two preliminary round venues. There are only about 200 km between the two stadiums.
Despite a courageous performance in their first game against Brazil, South Korea lost 2-0, with the Brazilian Marta scoring her 15th World Cup goal with a converted penalty and thus becoming the sole record scorer . Marta also scored her first World Cup goal in 2003 with a penalty against South Korea. In the second game against Costa Rica, the Asians fell behind early on, but were able to quickly equalize it and convert it into a lead. This lasted until the 89th minute, then Costa Rica managed to equalize. They also fell behind against Spain, but were able to turn the game around in the second half and celebrate their first win in a World Cup game with 2-1. A second group South Korea met on June 21, 2015. Montreal on France , F. the group winners of Group Both met only once before each other in 2003 at their first World Cup finals and South Korea lost with 0: 1st And this time too, the Asians could not win. They fell behind with two goals early on and couldn't work out any scoring opportunities themselves. With 0: 3, the defeat was two goals higher than the first time.
