Soccer World Cup for women / goal scorers
This article lists all of the top scorers at previous women's soccer World Cups . (Status: July 7, 2019, after the final) The Brazilian Marta has been leading the table since June 9, 2015 with initially 15, now 17 goals, ahead of the no longer active German Birgit Prinz , who scored 14 goals and has been together since 2011 with Marta topped the list, and Abby Wambach , who also scored her 14th World Cup goal in 2015 and had already replaced her compatriot Michelle Akers as the best World Cup scorer in the USA in 2011 . Prinz scored seven of them at the 2003 World Cup , where she was the top scorer. Marta was also the top scorer in 2007 with seven goals. Akers was the first top scorer at the 1991 World Cup with ten goals. No player could score more goals at a World Cup tournament. The fifth place is now shared by the Chinese Sun Wen and the German Bettina Wiegmann with 11 goals each, who like Prinz, Mia Hamm , Julie Foudy and Kristine Lilly scored goals in four World Cup tournaments. In 2015, 66 new players were added, 22 of them newcomers to the World Cup. In 2019, eight more goal scorers were added in group stage 47 and in the knockout round. Three other players ( Cristiane , Carli Lloyd and Christine Sinclair ) have now scored at least ten goals. Marta and Sinclair are the first players to score at least one goal in five World Cup tournaments.
Every country that has participated so far has at least one goalscorer; before the 2015 World Cup, Colombia had no goalscorer.
