Josée Bélanger (born May 14, 1986 in Coaticook , Québec ) is a former Canadian soccer player .
Career
Bélanger started playing soccer in her native Coaticook when she was five. In 2002 she was invited to a training camp for the Canadian U-16 team for the first time. In 2003 she played a game with the U-23 team at the age of 17 at the Pan American Games when she was substituted on in the semifinals two minutes before the end of the game. With the U-19 team she then took part in the 2004 CONCACAF U-20 championship for women and won the title against the USA , where she scored the decisive 2-1 in the 118th minute. She then took part in the 2004 Women's U-19 World Cup in Thailand and was used in the three group matches. In the quarter-finals against China, in which Canada were knocked out 3-1, it was not used. Even before the World Cup, she played her first international match on July 30, but it was lost 3-0 to Japan . Then it took six years until she came to further international appearances. First she was used in three friendlies in 2010, including the 0: 5 against Germany on September 15. In November she won the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup 2010 with Canada and qualified for the 2011 World Cup in Germany . In December she won the four-nation tournament in Brazil with Canada , but missed the World Cup due to an injury. It was not until 2014 that she was used again in international matches, including the Cyprus Cup 2014 , which Canada finished in fifth place. A year later she reached the final of the Cyprus Cup with Canada , but lost it to England . On April 27, 2015, she was appointed to the squad for the 2015 World Cup in her home country. She was in the starting line-up in the three group matches and in the round of 16 and scored the 1-0 winner in the round of 16 against Switzerland .
She was part of the roster for the 2016 Summer Olympics qualifier , where Canada qualified for the Olympics. She came to four missions and was only not taken into account in the third group game when some regular players were spared. The striker, who appeared 57 times for the Canadian women's national soccer team, ended her active career in May 2017.
