Coaticook is a small town in the administrative region of Estrie (also Eastern Townships ) in the Canadian province of Québec .
The city is right on the border with the USA . The name of the city goes back to the Abenaki Indians: Koatikeku means "river in the pine forests".
The city was founded around 1800 and is still typically Victorian today with small two-story brick houses.
The entire Eastern Townships were settled by loyalists after the civil war in the USA . The influence of Francophone Canadians only developed later.
The gorge on the Coaticook River with its 169 m long, very narrow suspension bridge is well worth seeing .
