Kirsten Johanna Maria van de Ven (born May 11, 1985 in Heesch ) is a Dutch soccer player .

Club career

Van de Ven started playing football at HVC Heesch, in the boys' team. At the age of 18 she went to study in the USA . With the team of the Bobcats from Quinnipiac University from Hamden (Connecticut) she played in the Northeast Conference . She was involved in 18 games in 23 of the 27 goals of the Bobcats this season : she scored twelve herself and set up eleven. In her first year, the offensive midfielder was voted both newcomer and player of the year in her league ; she was only the second player to do so in the history of the NEC.

After a year she changed universities and studied at Florida State in Tallahassee . Here she played for three years. During the 2008 semester break , she trained with Willem II for a few weeks. After completing her psychology studies with a bachelor's degree , she returned to the Netherlands and joined Willem II during the 2007/08 winter break. In the Eredivisie she scored ten goals in 24 games by the end of the 2008/09 season. From the beginning of 2010 to the winter of 2013 she played for the Swedish first division club Tyresö FF . She has been under contract with FC Rosengård since January 2014 .

National team

Van de Ven already played in the U-17 national team together with Marije Brummel and Manon Melis, among others . She had already played 33 games with ten goals in the U-19 national team when she made her A-team debut in August 2004 . By August 2009, 27 more internationals followed; only once, however, was she able to score a goal for Oranje .

Kirsten van de Ven was part of the Dutch squad at the European Championship finals in Finland. She scored two goals and is the best European championship scorer in the Netherlands.

In 2015 she played at the World Cup finals in Canada . She had her first appearance in the Dutch women's first World Cup game when she came on as a substitute in stoppage time in a 1-0 win against New Zealand . For her second appearance she came back as a substitute in the last group game against hosts Canada and scored the equalizer that was crucial for advancement. She also scored a goal against defending champions Japan in the round of 16 - again after being substituted on. However, the goal in stoppage time came too late to avert the defeat, so that the Dutch women were eliminated as the last newcomer on their first participation. Although she was only used for just under 60 minutes (including stoppage times) in three games, with two goals she is now also the best World Cup goalscorer in the Netherlands.
