Hege Riise (born July 18, 1969 in Lørenskog ) is a former Norwegian soccer player and current soccer coach. The midfielder was the captain of the Norwegian national team , for which she played from 1990 to 2004. With 188 internationals she was a European record player until April 22, 2009 , when she was replaced by Birgit Prinz . In addition, Kerstin Stegemann (191 games) and Katrine Pedersen (196 games) were able to surpass this mark and hire Sandrine Soubeyrand .

In 1991 she became vice European and vice world champion with Norway. In 1993 she became European champion with the Norwegian selection. Two years later she and her team won the world championship . With five goals she was the second best goalscorer and in the final against Germany she scored the opening goal for a 2-0 victory. She then became Norway's first woman footballer of the year . In 1996 she won the bronze medal at the first women's Olympic football tournament. In 2000 she led her team to Olympic victory . Three years later she was voted the best Norwegian female footballer of all time by the Norwegian Football Association.

She ended her club career as a player-coach at Lillestrøm SK Kvinner . From 2007 to 2008 she was the main coach at Lillestrøm SK Kvinner and also assistant coach of the Norwegian U-19 team. Between 2009 and 2011 she was the assistant coach of Pia Sundhage , the coach of the US women's national team . From 2011 to 2012 she was the sports director at Lillestrøm SK Kvinner and since the beginning of 2013 she has been co-trainer of Even Pellerud of the Norwegian women's national team.
