Candace Marie Chapman (born April 2, 1983 in Port of Spain , Trinidad and Tobago ) is a Canadian former soccer player . While she was still playing by storm in her high school and college days, she later played in the defense for the club and national team.
Career
Chapman began playing soccer in high school and then played for various teams in regional championships. From 2006 she played for the Vancouver Whitecaps Women and won the W-League championship with them in 2006 . From the start of Women's Professional Soccer , she played for the Boston Breaker , then moved to FC Gold Pride , and when this was dissolved despite the championship, in 2011 to Western New York Flash .
At the age of 18, she made her first of 88 international matches at the Algarve Cup on March 1, 2002 against Scotland .
In 2002 she won the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup and silver with the U-19s at the 2002 World Cup . In both cases, the Canadians lost in the final against the USA . She could not take part in the World Cup due to a torn cruciate ligament .
At the 2006 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup it was only enough to win silver. At the Pan American Games in 2007 bronze was added. At the 2007 World Cup she was used in three games and scored one goal. In 2008 she took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing , scored the first goal of the tournament and reached the quarter-finals with Canada, in which they were again subject to the USA. In 2010 she won her first title with the national team: At the 2010 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup , the Canadians placed ahead of the USA for the first time after the USA failed in the semifinals to Mexico. Canada qualified directly for the 2011 World Cup , where they will meet host Germany in the opening game . Candace was a member of the Canadian squad for the World Cup and was used in the opening game against Germany. She was also used in the other two group games, but was eliminated with Canada after three defeats in the preliminary round.
On January 27, 2012, she made her 100th international match in the semifinals of the Olympic qualification against Mexico and was able to qualify with her team for the Olympic Games in London .
She was also nominated for the 2012 Olympic Games . She was used in the first and last game and won the bronze medal with her team.
In the 2013 season she played in the newly formed National Women's Soccer League , the highest American professional league in women's football, for Washington Spirit . At the end of March 2014, she was released from her employer.
