Ann Kristin Aarønes (born January 19, 1973 in Ålesund ) is a former Norwegian soccer player and 1995 world champion .

Career

Aarønes started her career at Spjelkavik IL in her hometown. She spent most of her career at Trondheims-Ørn SK , Norway's most successful women's football club. Here she brought it to five Norwegian national championship titles and six cup wins. At the end of her career she still played for New York Power in the North American professional league WUSA .

For the Norwegian national team , she played 111 international games from 1990 to 1999 and scored 60 goals. After she had not yet been part of the squad at the first World Cup in China in 1991, where Norway was runner-up, she became world champion in Sweden in 1995 and the tournament's top scorer with six goals. At her second and last World Cup in 1999 in the USA, she reached fourth place with the Norwegian team. She also became European Champion in Italy in 1993 and Vice European Champion in Denmark in 1991. In 1996 she won bronze at the Summer Olympics.
