Bernd Steinwendner (born February 21, 1939 in Chemnitz ) is an Austrian painter, graphic artist and draftsman who lives in Germany.

life and work

Steinwendner's drawings were exhibited in the Municipal Museum in Karl-Marx-Stadt / Chemnitz as early as primary school. After graduating from high school in 1957, Steinwendner was not allowed to study because, like his father, he was an Austrian citizen. To be able to study, he would have had to take citizenship of the GDR . From 1957 to 1960 he was trained as a graphic draftsman at DEWAG Karl-Marx-Stadt , and continued his autodidactic training in painting and drawing. From 1960 to 1967 he worked as a graphic designer at DEWAG Karl-Marx-Stadt. Since 1967 when he became a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR , he worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist. Steinwendner became a member of the Galerie Oben in Karl-Marx-Stadt and had his first exhibitions. From 1967 onwards, private collectors, including those from abroad, bought pictures, graphics and drawings for the first time through the Oben gallery. His field of activity ranged in advertising from the design of cheese packaging to brochures for VVB machine tools and tools or Agra (Markkleeberg) to postage stamp and record design. Other works include a. Don Quixote, In the Mirror, and Calm Before the Storm .

Since 1990 he has been a member of the Federal Association of Visual Artists, the Saxon Artists Association and the Chemnitz Artists Association

He lives in Frankenberg / Saxony.

Honors

Steinwendner received the GDR “Golden Postage Stamp” award. He was also selected five times for “100 Saxon Graphics” and was awarded the Level II graphic art prize in 2008.

Exhibitions

Steinwendner had solo exhibitions and participations in exhibitions in Augustusburg, Chemnitz, Dresden, Döbeln, Freiberg, Frankenberg, Gellert Museum Hainichen, Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Leisnig, Mittweida, Oelsnitz, Riesa, Rochsburg, Wiederau, Vienna.
