Tiffeny Carleen Milbrett (born October 23, 1972 in Portland , Oregon ) is a former American soccer player . The striker played for the American national team from 1991 to 2006 and became world and Olympic champion.

Career

Between 1987 and 1990, Milbrett went to Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro . She scored 54 goals in one season alone and still holds the Oregon state record for the most goals in a high school season. She was also a talented basketball player and track and field athlete in high school .

In 1990 she moved to the University of Portland and set several records during her college days. She is still the most successful goalscorer (103) and assists (40) at her university. She is also the second most successful goalscorer in the entire college league. Soccer America magazine voted her into the “College Team of the 1990s”. After college, she played for the Japanese club Shiroki Serena for two years .

On August 4, 1991 Milbrett made his debut in a game against China in the national team . For the 1991 World Cup , however, she was not included and only played her second international match in August 1992. Her first international goal was scored two days later against Norway in her third international match. For the 1995 World Cup , in which the USA finished third, she was taken into account and used in all six games in which she scored three goals. In 1996 she won the Olympic gold medal. In the final against China, she scored the decisive winner. A year later, she set a record for the national team with five assists in the game against Australia . In February 1999, on the occasion of the group draw for the 1999 World Cup, she played with the national team against a FIFA World Cup. The game is not counted as an official international match. At the World Cup in his own country, Milbrett won the World Cup and was the US team's top scorer with three goals. She won the silver medal at the 2000 Olympic Games. In the final against Norway, she brought her team 1-0 lead in the 5th minute and equalized to 2-2 in the 2nd minute of stoppage time. In the extra time that was necessary, their team had to accept the goal to make it 2: 3.

In 2001 the American professional league WUSA started and Tiffeny Milbrett signed a contract with New York Power. In the first season she was voted Player of the Season. She also scored the league's first hat trick .

She scored a goal at the 2003 World Cup , the last in a 3-1 win against Canada for third place.

On October 22, 2003, she played her 200th international match against Italy . After another game, she was no longer considered for the national team after a dispute with the then national coach April Heinrichs . After Greg Ryan took over the national team in 2005, Milbrett returned and scored her 100th international goal against Ukraine on July 10th . This was also her last international goal. She played her last of 206 international matches on October 23, 2005 against Mexico . Together with her, Shannon MacMillan ended her national team career after 177 caps. The number of their internationals was only set to 206 in August 2016, after the US federation had come across two internationals held in January 1995 when reviewing its statistics, which had not been taken into account until then. In some statistics that have not yet been updated, it is therefore still listed with 204 international matches.

In the summer of 2005 she played for the Swedish first division club Sunnanå SK for two months before joining the W-League club Vancouver Whitecaps Women . In 2007 she returned to Sweden and played for Linköpings FC .
