Jessie Fleming (born March 11, 1998 in London , Ontario ) is a Canadian soccer player . After Kara Lang, she is the second youngest player to have played for the Canadian national soccer team.
Career
Junior national teams
Fleming took part in the 2013 CONCACAF championship with the Canadian U-17 national team. The Canadian selection reached the final, which they lost on penalties to Mexico. Fleming scored three goals during the tournament and was awarded the Golden Ball for best player of the tournament. The following year she led the U-17 team as captain to the quarter-finals of the World Cup . You yourself managed a goal against the German selection .
At the U-20 World Cup in 2014 , Fleming was on the pitch in three of the four Canadian games, but was eliminated in the quarter-finals against the eventual world champions from Germany . With the U-23 team, she took part in the 2015 Pan-American Games in her home country, in which the Canadians finished fourth. She scored the goal for Canada in the 1: 2 lost game for the bronze medal.
A national team
Fleming made her debut for the Canadian senior team on December 15, 2013 at the age of 15 against Chile . At a four-nation tournament in early 2015, Fleming was used in all three games and won the tournament with the Canadian team. At the Cyprus Cup 2015 , she scored her first international goal in the third minute of the game against Scotland and thus the 1-0 lead (final score 2-0).
Fleming was the youngest player on her team to take part in the 2015 World Cup in her own country. She was used in two games and reached the quarter-finals with the team.
In December 2015, she took part in the four nations tournament in Brazil , in which Canada took second place. She was also on the roster for the 2016 Olympic Games Qualifier, where Canada qualified for the Olympic Games. At the women's football tournament of the 2016 Olympic Games , she was finally able to win the bronze medal with Canada after the team had previously been eliminated in the semifinals against Germany .
On May 25, 2019, she was nominated for the 2019 World Cup . She was used in the Canadians' four games and did not miss a minute, but was eliminated with her team in the round of 16 against later third Sweden . In the group game against New Zealand , she scored her first World Cup goal.
UCLA Bruins
In her first season for the University of California Los Angeles college team , Fleming scored 11 goals and set up 5 more goals, making her the top scorer on her team in her first year for the Bruins . In 2017 she led the Bruins to the final of the College Cup, which was lost 3-2 to the Stanford Cardinals . This season she scored a total of 6 goals and prepared 8 more, and she was one of three team captains.
