Melissa Palma Julie Tancredi (born December 27, 1981 in Hamilton , Ontario ) is a former Canadian soccer player . Tancredi is the daughter of an Italian and a Canadian.
Career
Her first international match was on February 26, 2004 in a 6-0 win against Jamaica . With the Canadian national football team, with which she has recorded 60 appearances so far (May 2011), she was eliminated from the 2007 World Cup as third in the preliminary round. She managed a goal in the game against Australia . At the 2008 Summer Olympics , she and her team made it to the quarter-finals. There they lost 2-1 in extra time against eventual tournament winners United States . The greatest success was winning the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup 2010 . She was appointed to the Canadian squad for the World Cup and was used in the opening game against Germany. She was also used in the other two group games, but was eliminated with Canada after three defeats in the preliminary round.
She was also nominated for the 2012 Olympic Games . She was used in all six games and scored four goals.
On May 30, 2015, she played her 100th international match against England in the last preparation game for the 2015 World Cup in her own country .
At the World Cup, she was used in all five games, but was eliminated with her team in the quarter-finals and remained without a goal. In December 2015, she then took part with the senior national team in the four -nation tournament in Brazil , in which Canada finished second. She was also on the roster for the 2016 Summer Olympics qualifier , where Canada qualified for the Olympics. She was used in four games and scored three goals.
She was then the oldest player in the Canadian squad for the Olympic Games and was used in five games. In the 2-1 game against Germany she was captain of the team and scored both goals. This enabled Canada to win against Germany for the first time . Although they lost in the semi-finals to the German team, which then also became Olympic champions, in the bronze medal game, in which they also participated, hosts Brazil were defeated 2-1, so that Canada won the bronze medal as in 2012. In February 2017, she announced the end of her career.
She is a cousin of the soccer player Gian-Pietro Orelli, who played 1 game in the league for the second team of Eintracht Frankfurt . Her father Peter chairs the non-profit organization Central Italy Earthquake Relief Hamilton.
