Jodie Taylor (born May 17, 1986 in Birkenhead ) is an English football player . So far she has played for clubs in England, Australia, Canada, Sweden and the USA. She is currently under contract with Reign FC . At the age of 28, she played for the English women's national football team for the first time in 2014 .

Career

society

Taylor began her career in 2002 at the age of fifteen with English first division club Tranmere Rovers . After the Rovers' relegation in 2004, she studied at Oregon State University in the USA and played for their college team, the Oregon State Beavers . Meanwhile, she ran sporadically for the W-League - franchises the Boston Renegades and Ottawa Fury on. In the 2009 season she was part of the W-League championship team Pali Blues before returning to Ottawa for a season.

At the end of 2010, Taylor joined the Australian first division club Melbourne Victory and moved back to her homeland to the Lincoln Ladies in early 2011 . In late 2011, she signed a contract with Birmingham City LFC , but was immediately loaned to Melbourne Victory for the winter months. After the 2012 season at Birmingham, which was crowned by winning the FA Women's Cup , another loan followed, which led Taylor to the Swedish first division club Kopparbergs / Göteborg FC in 2013 .

For the 2013/14 season of the Australian W-League , she signed a contract with Sydney FC , with which she reached the semi-finals for the championship, which was lost 3-2 to eventual champions Melbourne Victory . However, Taylor secured the title of top goalscorer of the regular season with twelve goals in eleven games this season . She then switched to NWSL participant Washington Spirit for a year before moving to Portland Thorns FC in January 2015 . After a loan to Australian first division club Canberra United , but for which she did not play a competitive game, Taylor moved to Arsenal LFC in March 2016 . For Arsenal, she did not play her first league game until the end of October, but scored both goals for a 2-0 win against the Doncaster Belles. This was followed by another use in the last game of the season in the 5-3 against Liverpool. Arsenal finished the season in third place, missing out on the 2017/18 UEFA Women's Champions League .

In the "Spring Series" called short transition season 2017, she was used in seven out of eight games and scored three goals. This short season ended in third place as did the following season 2017/18, now adapted to the normal European game calendar, in which she only played the first three games. Then she moved again to Australia, now to Melbourne City FC . She played her first game for Melbourne on January 1, 2018. She scored her first goal for Melbourne on the last day of the regular season in a 3-0 win against the Newcastle Jets. This ended the regular season for Melbourne in fourth place, with which the Finals series were reached. Here they defeated first in the semifinals Brisbane Roar , the leader after the season and then in the final of Sydney FC 2-0, where they scored the second goal.

She then moved to the National Women's Soccer League for Seattle Reign FC . For this she played all games of the season and was together with the Canadian Christine Sinclair the fifth best goalscorer of the season with nine goals each and the best goalscorer of their club, which finished the season in third. Thus the NWSL Championship play-offs were reached, where however the semi-finals against the league second Portland Thorns FC with 1: 2 was lost. For the 2019 season, the club will start as Reign FC after moving.

National team

Taylor was in the squad of various English youth national teams. In January 2014, she was invited to a training camp for the English senior team for the first time , and finally made her debut on August 3, 2014 in a friendly against Sweden. On August 21, she had her only appearance in qualifying for the 2015 World Cup in a 4-0 win against Wales .

On March 6, 2015, she scored all three goals in the 3-0 win against Australia in the Cyprus Cup 2015 and thus her first international goals.

She was nominated for the World Cup and was the English field player with the fewest international matches. At the World Cup she was substituted on for the first time in the third group game in a 2-1 win against Colombia nine minutes before the end of the game. In the round of 16 against Norway , she came into play in the 63rd minute. In the quarter-finals against the hosts , she was in the starting line-up and scored 1-0 in the 11th minute and then stayed in the game, which was won 2-1. She was also in the starting line-up in the semi-finals against defending champions Japan , but was replaced after an hour when the score was 1-1. An own goal in injury time by Laura Bassett lost the game and missed the final. In the game for third place , in which a victory against Germany was achieved for the first time , it was not used.

In qualifying for the 2017 European Championship , she was not used, at the European Championship she was the top scorer with five goals. She scored three of them in the first group game against the northern neighbor Scotland , for which it was the first European Championship game of her women's team. In the second group game against Spain , she scored the 2-0 final score. The English women were already qualified for the quarter-finals. Taylor was therefore spared in the third group game like some other regular players. In the quarter-finals against France , she scored the 1-0 winner. Due to the 3-0 semi-final defeat against the hosts , the final was missed.

In qualifying for the 2019 World Cup , she was used in half of the games and scored two goals. In the SheBelieves Cup 2018 , however, it was used in all games, but in the SheBelieves Cup 2019 it was only used in two games and only played 53 minutes. This was followed by a use in the 0-1 home defeat against Canada and on May 8, the nomination for the World Cup . At the World Cup she was only used in the group game against Argentina over 90 minutes and although she scored the only goal of the game, she was only substituted twice afterwards - in the round of 16 against Cameroon in the 64th minute and in the third place match against Sweden in the 50th minute. Since the game was lost with 1: 2, the World Cup ended for the English women in fourth place.
