USL W-League 2009
The W-League 2009 was the 15th season of the W-League , the second highest division in US and Canadian women's football . The season began on May 8 with the 2-1 loss of the Hampton Roads Piranhas to the Charlotte Lady Eagles . The season ended on July 19th. The play-offs began on July 22nd and ended on August 8th.
Pali Blues defended his title against the Washington Freedom Reserves and turned the final to 2-1.
Six teams changed their names: the Carolina RailHawks Women (now: Cary Lady Clarets), the Chicago Gaels (Chicago Red Eleven), Fort Collins Force (Colorado Force), Jersey Sky Blue (Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues), Rochester Rhinos Women ( Rochester Ravens) and Washington Freedom (Washington Freedom Reserves). In addition, two teams joined the league: Buffalo Flash and Quebec City Arsenal. Six teams left the league: Bradenton Athletics, Carolina Dynamo, Fredericksburg Lady Gunners, Michigan Hawks, Vermont Lady Voltage, and West Virginia Illusion.
