María Ruiz Román (also known as Mery Ruiz ; born June 13, 1983 in Madrid ) is a Spanish football official , player agent and former football player . Although she never made her debut for the national team, she was, along with Laura del Río , one of the first Spanish soccer players to celebrate success as a professional abroad. She was active in the USA and Russia for several years .

Career

Mery Ruiz began her career with the Madrid club CD Lourdes . In 2002 she joined CFF Estudiantes de Huelva before 2004 in the United States moved and in the Park University ( Missouri studied). With the women's soccer team, the Park University Pirates , she took part in the NAIA championship and scored 109 goals in four seasons. Because of her outstanding achievements, she was inducted into the Wall of Honor of Park University Athletics in 2018 . In addition, she played in 2006, during the game-free time in the USA, with Sporting Huelva the second Spanish division. That year, she and the Andalusians made it to the Primera División .

In 2007 she moved to Indiana FC ( Indianapolis ), where she was able to celebrate the championship title in the WPSL in her first season . She herself was elected in the Final Four tournament for the title, both for MVP and in the All-Tournament Tam. In the 2008 season she reached the final again with her team in the USL W-League , but failed there with 1: 2 to Pali Blues . In the National Women's Open cup competition , however, Indiana FC prevailed 1-0 in the final against Ajax America and won the title. For the 2009 season Mery Ruiz moved to Buffalo Flash , with whom she failed in the final of the Central Conference at her former club Indiana FC.

Subsequently, Mery Ruiz returned to her homeland and played the 2009/10 season of the Superliga in the ranks of Espanyol Barcelona . With the Catalans she won the Copa de la Reina with a 3-1 in the final against Rayo Vallecano . In addition, their club also reached the final play-off for the championship, but failed here with 1: 2 on a two-way leg to Rayo Vallecano.

In 2010 Mery Ruiz moved to the Russian first division club Zvezda 2005 Perm . She was supposed to spend two seasons there, reached the quarterfinals when she played for the first time in the Women's Champions League and won the national cup with her team in the 2011/12 season with a 2-1 win in the final against Sorki Krasnogorsk . In 2012 she moved to league rivals Sorki Krasnogorsk, where she spent a total of three seasons and was able to win the Russian championship in 2012/13 . The 2015 season she also spent in the first Russian league at Kubanotschka Krasnodar and was able to reach the final of the Cup with these, where she and her team lost 1-0 to their former club Zvezda 2005 Perm.

At the age of 33, Mery Ruiz moved back to Spain, where she and Laura del Río , with whom she had played at Indiana FC in 2008, were signed by the second division CD Tacón . With her club, in which she was also the team captain, she just missed promotion to the Primera División in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons . In the 2018/19 season, CD Tacón finally achieved promotion. Mery Ruiz was seriously injured in the first play-off game against CFF Saragossa on April 28, 2019 and was out for the rest of the season. She then ended her active career.

Career as a functionary

In addition to and after her work as a player, Mery Ruiz also worked as a delegate in the Spanish players' union AFE and as a players agent at LTA Agency .
