Natriumcocosulfat or Natriumcocoylsulfat also SCS (from English sodium coco sulfate ) is a substance mixture which contains as an anionic surfactant , so as washing-active acting substance. It is used as a detergent and emulsifier e.g. B. used in detergents.

Extraction and presentation

Sodium coconut sulfate is the sodium salt of sulfate esters of coconut oil or palm oil . It can be obtained by reacting coconut oil or palm oil with sulfuric acid and then reacting with a sodium salt. Due to the composition of coconut oil, the substance mixture consists mainly of sodium lauryl sulfate and a complex mixture of other similar chemical compounds, such as for example sodium myristyl and Natriumpalmitylsulfat .

properties

Sodium coconut sulfate is a white solid that is soluble in water.

safety instructions

There is research to suggest that sodium coconut sulfate is slightly less irritating to the skin than sodium lauryl sulfate.
