Bethany Balcer (born March 7, 1997 in Hudsonville , Michigan ) is an American football player who has been under contract with Reign FC in the National Women's Soccer League since the 2019 season .

Career

college

Balcer played during her studies at Spring Arbor University from 2015 to 2018 for the local university team Spring Arbor Cougars , for which she scored a total of 129 goals in 98 games. The Cougars reached the NAIA Final Four in all four seasons and won two championships. Balcer has been voted NAIA National Player of the Year three times and the All-American Team four times , and she is the college's most successful goalscorer.

While in college, Balcer played as a summer amateur for several professional teams. She led Grand Rapids FC to the United Women's Soccer Championship in 2017 , scoring a hat-trick in five consecutive games . The following year Balcer played with the Seattle Sounders in the Women's Premier Soccer League .

In spring 2019, Balcer was signed by Reign FC from the National Women's Soccer League . She first came on as a substitute for Reign FC's away game at Houston Dash on April 14. The following week Balcer had her first appearance in the starting line-up in the home game against Orlando Pride and was already able to score her first goal.

At the end of the season, Balcer was named Rookie of the Year in the NWSL after scoring a total of six goals in 24 appearances.
