Sofia Christine Huerta (born December 14, 1992 in Boise , Idaho ) is a Mexican - American soccer player .
Career
society
Huerta played for the Santa Clara University soccer team , the Santa Clara Broncos , from 2011 to 2014 . In July 2013 she also played in a W-League game for the Seattle Sounders Women . In the college draft for the 2015 season of the National Women's Soccer League , she was committed in the second round in eleventh place by the Chicago Red Stars franchise .
National team
Huerta went through the youth program of the US American Football Association up to the U-20 national team . When she was not appointed to the United States' squad for the 2012 U-20 World Cup , she switched at short notice to the Mexican Association, which was also qualified, and was her team's top goalscorer with three goals in four appearances over the course of the tournament. As a result, Huerta played sporadically for the Mexican senior team , for example in 2012 at the four-nation tournament in Brazil . At the end of 2014, she announced her intention to appear again for selections in the United States in the future. The approval required for the change of association was granted by FIFA in September 2017. On September 15, she had her first appearance in the US national team in a 3-1 win against New Zealand when she came on in the 51st minute.
