Commandos 3: Destination Berlin ( engl. "Target Berlin") is a real-time tactics - computer game . The game is the third installment in the Commandos game series and the official sequel to Commandos 2: Men of Courage . It was released in October 2003 for Windows and MacOS .

action

As with the predecessors, the plot has not changed significantly. During the Second World War , a special Allied troop acts behind enemy lines in the fight against the German Reich . The focus is not on large battles, but on small, targeted operations with a special unit with special skills, the commandos. Unlike its predecessors, Commandos 3 offers a coherent story for the first time. This is told in three campaigns and leads the commandos from Stalingrad to Berlin .

Gameplay

The main game principle has changed little. However, some details have been adjusted. The commando squad now only consists of six specialists: the green beret , sniper , marine , demolition expert , spy and the thief . The playing field is still viewed from a bird's eye view and is mostly controlled with the mouse. When entering buildings, the game changes to a 3D view. The missions are divided into three campaigns. Stalingrad offers three missions, Central Europe consists of six missions and Normandy consists of three. In addition, the game offers two tutorials in which the main functions of the game are explained.

Multiplayer mode

While the multiplayer mode in the previous parts consisted of a co-op mode of the solo missions, this has changed in Commandos 3: Destination Berlin . Deathmatch games on the maps of the solo campaign are available to players via network connections . A co-op mode cannot be selected.

Commandos 3: Destination Berlin was received more critically than its predecessor. In 2003, Heiko Klinge praised the newly added “framework and spectacular cutscenes in the GameStar November issue, but he criticized the level of difficulty, which he called “frustrating” . Among other things, he made the "stupid service" responsible.

His colleague Markus Schwerdtel criticized in the same issue that the Spanish developers had run out of ideas. The "few new game elements such as the time limits are also annoying," said Schwerdtel.
