Bernd Hoppe (born February 7, 1943 in Erfurt ) is a German horticultural engineer, economist and author .

Life

Hoppe learned the trade of gardener and obtained the degrees of horticultural engineer (FH) and diploma in agricultural engineering . He received his PhD in 2018 from the Philipps University of Marburg as Dr. rer. nat. with the dissertation tendencies, problems and opportunities of the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants in Germany .

From 1989 to 1996 Hoppe was head of the Waldauer herb farm of the plant cultivation cooperative eG Bernburg -Nord. In 1990, on his initiative, the Association for Medicinal and Spice Plants Saluplanta eV Bernburg was founded, of which he was honorary managing director until 2019.

In 1990 Hoppe was also the initiator of the establishment of the German Technical Committee for Medicinal, Spice and Aromatic Plants . The committee provides cross-state advice, coordination and coordination of the scientific activities of this subject in Germany. Immediately after reunification , in July 1990, he organized the first all-German scientific conference “Medicinal and Spice Plants”.

From 1991 to 2019 Hoppe organized and led the Bernburg winter seminar "Medicinal and Spice Plants". The Bernburg Winter Seminar is the largest annual two-day scientific conference in the field in Europe with 250 to 300 international participants from up to 28 nations. He initiated the Saluplanta and GFS Prize , which has been awarded annually to outstanding personalities in the field since 2009.

Since 1990 Hoppe has been chairman of the non-profit research association Saluplanta (GFS) eV Bernburg for the promotion of science and research in the field of medicinal, aromatic, aromatic and dyed plants.

Publications

From 1993 to 1995 Hoppe published the specialist journal “Herba Germanica” and has since worked on the scientific advisory board of the “Journal for Medicinal and Spice Plants”. He is the author or co-author of two EU projects in 1995 and 1998 as well as an FNR project (2004/2005). He published numerous scientific articles in specialist journals.

From 2007 to 2013 Hoppe was editor and co-author of the five-volume standard work “Handbuch des Arznei- und Gewürzpflanze”, which was published by the Saluplanta Association for Medicinal and Spice Plants.
