Linda Brigitta Sembrant (born May 15, 1987 ) is a Swedish soccer player . The defender made her debut in 2008 for the Swedish national team .

Career

Sembrant started playing football at SK Servia . Through Uppsala IF she came to Bälingetrollens IF , the youth team of Bälinge IF . Here she was noticed by the people in charge of Svenska Fotbollförbundet and in 2003 she was appointed to the Swedish U-16 national team. In 2004 Sembrant moved to the first division squad from Bälinge IF and joined the club in Damallsvenskan . At the same time, she worked out a regular place in the various youth teams of the association, whereby she was partially appointed to the teams of older age groups. In the course of the 2007 season she was named Player of the Year by the SEDD women's referee association for her fair play.

In November 2007, the Swedish press reported Sembrant's change to league rivals AIK . Before starting the season with her new club, she completed a pre-season training camp in Cyprus with the Swedish national team. On February 12, 2008, she made her national team debut in a 2-0 win over England , when she replaced Nilla Fischer from the 77th minute . While she established herself as a regular in the defense line at the club and played 21 league games, she was initially unable to stay in the national team and was not part of the squad for the 2008 Olympic Games . Also in the 2009 season she played regularly for AIK and returned to the national team. Thomas Dennerby nominated her for the 2009 European Championship . Shortly before the start of the tournament, however, she had to cancel due to an injury. She was ultimately replaced by Karin Lissel .

After Sembrant was relegated with AIK from the first division at the end of the 2010 season , she announced her move within Damallsvenskan to Kopparbergs / Göteborg FC . At the same time, she established herself as a regular in the national team, in whose squad she remained despite the sporting failure at club level, and in the summer of 2011 was part of the final squad for the World Cup in Germany . In the last group game against the USA , she was substituted on in the 88th minute and so came to her first World Cup appearance. After beating the USA, the Swedes were in the quarter-finals against Australia , which they won 3-1. The subsequent semi-final game against Japan , however, was lost 3-1. On July 16, 2011, she and the team won the game for third place in the 2-1 victory over France .

Sembrant was in the Swedish squad for the 2012 Olympic Games and was used in four games. Due to a torn cruciate ligament , she was unable to take part in the 2013 European Championships .

In May 2015 she was nominated for the 2015 World Cup . She was used in three games, scored 3: 2 in the first group game in a 3: 3 against Nigeria and 1: 3 in the last 16, lost with 1: 4 against Germany . So she scored the most goals of her team, but the World Cup ended prematurely for Sweden due to the knockout loss in the round of 16.

Since there were four European teams that were eliminated in the round of 16, a qualifying tournament was scheduled to determine the third European Olympic participant . Sembrant was used in the three games against the Netherlands , Norway and Switzerland and qualified with her team for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . There she was not used only in the 1: 5 defeat against hosts Brazil . In the other games she played the full distance. Although she was the only Swede to miss on penalties in the quarter-finals, since two Americans also missed, they reached the semifinals. There the Swedes prevailed again on penalties, this time against the hosts, although she was not used as a shooter. The final was then lost to Germany 1: 2, with an own goal to the meanwhile 0: 2.

In qualifying for the 2017 European Championship , she was only used in the first four games, but played the full distance there. Sweden qualified as group winners in the penultimate game. At the EM she was used in the four games, but was eliminated in the quarterfinals against the hosts and eventual winners Netherlands.

On September 4, 2018, she made her 100th international match in the decisive match for qualifying for the 2019 World Cup against Denmark . The Swedes won 1-0 and qualified for the World Cup. In qualifying, she was used in all seven games played. On May 16, she was also nominated for the World Cup . At the World Cup, she was also used in all seven games, where, as in qualifying, she did not miss a minute and scored a goal in the 5-1 against Thailand . As group runner-up they reached the knockout round, where they won 1-0 against Canada in the round of 16 . In the quarter-finals, the Swedes won a competitive game against the German team after 24 years and thus qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games. In the semi-finals, they were defeated by European champions Netherlands after extra time, but were then able to win the game for third place against England .

After the World Cup, she left Montpellier after 100 league games and joined the Italian champions Juventus Turin .
