Catherine Anne Reddick Whitehill (born Catherine Anne Reddick on February 10, 1982 in Richmond , Virginia ) is a former American football player . She played for ten years in the US national team .
life and career
In her youth she played 10 years for the Alabama Attack, with which she won five state titles and twice reached the regional semifinals. During her time at the University of North Carolina, she received several awards and made her way through the US youth teams. She quickly became one of the leading players there and won the gold medal at the Pan American Games with the U-18 team in 1999, scoring the winning goal in the final against Mexico with a long-range shot. In 2000, 2001 (as captain), 2002 and 2003 she was one of the victorious U-21 teams that won the Nordic Cup , although in 2002 she was only not used in the first game because she played with the senior national team that day .
She made her first of 135 international matches on July 20, 2000 in a 4-1 win over Italy . The first international goal was the 3: 1 on March 17, 2001 in the 3: 4 against Olympic champion Norway in the game for 5th place at the Algarve Cup . In 2002 she won the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup with the US team and thus qualified for the 2003 World Cup. There she was substituted on for the injured Brandi Chastain in the first game . In the game against North Korea, she was the first defender of the US team to score two goals in a World Cup game and in the quarter-finals against Norway, she provided the 1-0 winner by Abby Wambach . After losing to Germany in the semifinals, she and her team won the bronze medal against Canada. Due to a foot injury sustained during training, she was unable to take part in the four-nation tournament in 2004 , but was fit again for the 2004 Algarve Cup, which the US team won. She was part of the roster for the Olympic Games and was used in five games, where she was substituted on twice, u. a. in the final against Brazil .
In 2005 she was part of the winning US team at the Algarve Cup . Due to her honeymoon , she could not take part in the four-nation tournament in 2006 , but at the Algarve Cup 2006 she was again part of the team that lost the final on penalties against Germany. On July 15, she scored a goal against Sweden with a 70 yard free kick that is unofficially counted as the longest distance goal.
In 2007 she played as one of two players in all 24 international matches, u. a. in all games when winning the Algarve Cup and at the 2007 World Cup . In the first game of the four nations tournament in 2007 against Germany, she played her 100th international match . In 2007 she got the most assists of all US defenders.
In 2008, she came only in six games for use because they are on June 10, a torn ACL drew upon, which makes them not to even Olympic Games in Beijing could participate. It was not until July 19, 2009 that it was used again in the game against Canada. But this was her only international match in 2009.
