Rebecca Katie Smith (* 17th June 1981 in Los Angeles , United States ) is a former New Zealand soccer player and current - functionary . She was last under contract with Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg from 2009 to 2013 .

Career

Smith joined 1. FFC Frankfurt in the summer of 2004 . After just six months, she moved to local rivals FSV Frankfurt without having played a game for Frankfurt's Bundesliga team . She made her debut in the Bundesliga there on March 5, 2005 in a game against FCR 2001 Duisburg . Again after only half a year Smith moved on to the Swedish club Sunnanå SK , where she came to 52 missions in a good three years and was able to score four goals. After a short stay with the Newcastle United Jets at the end of 2008, she came to Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg , where she played for the first time on February 8, 2009. After Smith had not played a single Bundesliga game in the 2012/13 season due to a knee injury, she ended her active career in the summer of 2013.

National team

Smith has been a New Zealand senior player since 2003 , making her debut on April 7, 2003 in a game against Samoas . She was part of her country's selections at the 2007 and 2011 World Cups and at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics . On August 3, 2012, Smith played against the USA in the national jersey for the last time.

Functionary activity

After finishing her active career, she accepted a job offer from FIFA as a manager for women's football competitions.
