Cheyna Matthews (* 10. November 1993 as Cheyna Lee Williams ) is a US-American - Jamaican soccer player , since the season 2016 at the Washington Spirit in the National Women's Soccer League is under contract.

Career

During her studies at Vanderbilt University and Florida State University , Matthews played for the university teams of the Vanderbilt Commodores and Florida State Seminoles from 2012 to 2015 . In addition, she played for the W-League participants Los Angeles Blues and Atlanta Silverbacks from 2014 to 2015 . With the former, Matthews won the 2014 W-League championship. During the January 2016 college draft of the NWSL, she was selected in the first round in seventh position of the Washington Spirit franchise . Matthews made her NWSL debut on April 24, 2016 in a 2-1 away win over Sky Blue FC .

In the 2018 season, Matthews went on hold due to her first pregnancy.

National team

Matthews made two appearances for the United States under-23 team in 2015, where she went goalless.

After the Jamaican national soccer team qualified for the 2019 World Cup , Matthews was called up for the team's training camp in January 2019. She made her debut in a friendly against Chile on February 28, 2019, which Jamaica won 1-0.

Williams married in February 2018 Jordan Matthews , the wide receiver of the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL , they while studying at the Vanderbilt University met.
