Alexia Putellas Segura (born February 4, 1994 in Mollet del Vallès , Catalonia , Spain ) is a Spanish football player . The forward has played for FC Barcelona since 2012 and for the Spanish national team since 2013 . In 2021 she was awarded France Football 's Ballon d'Or for ' World Player of the Year '; she was also named FIFA World Player of the Year and UEFA Female Player of the Year in the same year .
Career
society
Putellas played for CE Sabadell as a youth team and for one season at FC Barcelona before joining Espanyol Barcelona 's youth team at the age of 12 . She later made her adult debut for Espanyol Barcelona, winning the Spanish Cup in 2010. She returned to FC Barcelona via UD Levante in the summer of 2012 and won the Champions League in the 2020/21 season .
In August 2021, Putellas was voted UEFA Female Player of the Year (“ Europe's Female Footballer of the Year ”) by UEFA. At the end of November 2021, France Football awarded her the Ballon d'Or for ' World Player of the Year '. She received 186 points in the election , 102 points more than her teammate Jennifer Hermoso in 2nd place. This was followed by the vote for FIFA World Player of the Year .
National team
In 2013 she made her debut for the Spanish national team, with which she took part in the 2013 European Championship finals. There she played three of the four finals games before the team failed in the quarter-finals to Norway .
