FIFA World Player of the Year 2009
The FIFA World Player of the Year 2009 (then still FIFA World Player ) was chosen on December 21, 2009 in the Kongresshaus Zurich . It was the 19th award in 1991 from the football world governing body FIFA introduced award " FIFA World Player of the Year " and the last before the price as a fusion with the Ballon d'Or together with the French trade magazine France Football , entitled FIFA Ballon d'Or was awarded . The winner of the award was the Argentine Lionel Messi .
Voting mode
The winner was determined by a vote among 147 national coaches and 147 national team captains. They each named the three best footballers in their opinion, although none of the three were allowed to come from their own country. An entry in first place brought five points, a second place three points, the third place one point. Then the points were added.

- Club : Club for which the player was active in the calendar year. If a player has changed clubs, the club who is leaving is named in first position.
