from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The FIFA World Player of the Year 1995 (then still FIFA World Player ) was chosen on January 8, 1996 at a gala organized by the Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport on the occasion of its 100th anniversary in the Teatro Nazionale in Milan . It was the fifth award of the “ World Footballer of the Year ” award introduced by the FIFA World Cup in 1991 . The winner of the award was the Liberian George Weah .

Voting mode

The winner was determined by voting among 95 national coaches from around the world. They each named the three best footballers in their opinion, although none of the three were allowed to come from their own country. An entry in first place brought five points, a second place three points, the third place one point. Then the points were added.
