World Footballer of the Year 2002
Ronaldo

The FIFA World Player of the Year 2002 (then still FIFA World Player ) was chosen on December 17, 2002 in the Palacio de Congresos in Madrid . It was the twelfth award of the “ World Footballer of the Year ” award introduced by the FIFA World Cup in 1991 . The winner of the award for the third time was the Brazilian Ronaldo .

Voting mode

The winner was determined by a vote among 147 national coaches from around the world. They each named the three best footballers in their opinion, although none of the three were allowed to come from their own country. An entry in first place brought five points, a second place three points, the third place one point. Then the points were added.
