FIFA World Player of the Year 1992
The FIFA World Player of the Year 1992 (then still FIFA World Player ) was chosen in early 1993 at a gala organized by the Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola in Estoril . It was the second award of the " World Footballer of the Year " award introduced by the FIFA World Cup in 1991 . The winner of the award was Marco van Basten from the Netherlands .
Voting mode
The winner was determined by voting among 71 national coaches from around the world. They each named the three best footballers in their opinion, although none of the three were allowed to come from their own country. An entry in first place brought five points, a second place three points, the third place one point. Then the points were added.
