FIFA World Player of the Year 2008, Cristiano Ronaldo

The FIFA World Player of the Year 2008 (then still FIFA World Player ) was chosen on January 12, 2009 in the Zurich Opera House . It was the 18th award of the “ World Footballer of the Year ” award introduced by the FIFA World Cup in 1991 . The winner of the award was Cristiano Ronaldo .

Voting mode

The winner was determined by a vote among 155 national coaches and 155 national team captains. They each named the three best footballers in their opinion, although none of the three were allowed to come from their own country. An entry in first place brought five points, a second place three points, the third place one point. Then the points were added.
