The FIFA World Player of the Year 1994 (then still FIFA World Player ) was chosen in early 1995 as part of a gala organized by the Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. It was the fourth award of the “ World Footballer of the Year ” award introduced by the FIFA World Cup in 1991 . The winner of the award was the Brazilian Romário .

Voting mode

The winner was determined by a vote among 83 national coaches from around the world. They each named the three best footballers in their opinion, although none of the three were allowed to come from their own country. An entry in first place brought five points, a second place three points, the third place one point. Then the points were added.
