World Footballer of the Year 2014
Cristiano Ronaldo

The 59th Ballon d'Or ( French for Golden Ball ) was awarded for the fifth time in 2014 by France Football magazine and the world football association FIFA under the name FIFA Ballon d'Or .

On October 28, 2014, the 23 candidates for the world football elections were announced, four days earlier the candidates for the world football player election were published. On December 1, 2014, the three players with the most votes were announced, these were Cristiano Ronaldo , Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer . The winner was announced and the awards ceremony took place on January 12, 2015 at the FIFA Ballon d'Or gala in the Kongresshaus in Zurich .

Voting mode

The prize was awarded by a jury made up of national coaches , national team captains and specialist journalists. These awarded five, three or one point to three players from a list jointly set by the France Football editorial team and FIFA. The performance of the players should be recognized throughout the respective calendar year. Since the three groups of voters have different numbers of voters, but the votes of these three "electoral colleges" should each account for exactly one third of the total result, the absolute scores were then converted into percentages and published in this way.
