The article contains a detailed description of the Spanish national soccer team for women at world championships . The Spanish women, trained by Ignacio Quereda and then by Jorge Vilda from 1988 to 2015 , have not been able to build on the successes of their male colleagues and only qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time in 2014. This makes Spain the tenth European team to qualify for a women's World Cup. After a draw and two defeats in the preliminary round of the 2015 World Cup, Spain was the only European team to retire after the preliminary round and ranked 28th in the all-time table as the worst European team. In 2019 the round of 16 could be reached, where the Spaniards failed to defending champion USA.

The tournaments
World Cup 1991 in the People's Republic of China
Spain failed to qualify for the 1991 European Women's Football Championship , which served as a qualification for the first women's World Cup in the People's Republic of China . The Spanish met Denmark , Italy and Switzerland . Only with two goalless draws against Switzerland and Italy could points be scored. The Spaniards were eliminated in fourth place. Denmark and Italy qualified for the World Cup.
World Cup 1995 in Sweden
Four years later the qualification for the European Championship in 1995 went better. This time only England was a little better, against which they played 0-0 twice. In the end, both had 29-0 goals, but Spain also shared the points in the goalless draw in Belgium, while England won all games against the other two group opponents Belgium and Slovenia . After all, the Spaniards achieved their highest international win to date with a 17-0 win against Slovenia. England then qualified as one of five European teams for the World Cup in Sweden.
World Cup 1999 in the USA
For the third World Cup, UEFA scheduled qualifying matches for the first time . To date, UEFA is the only continental association that holds separate World Cup qualifiers. Spain met Sweden , Ukraine and Iceland , against whom the only points were won with two draws (0-0 and 1-1). Group winners Sweden qualified directly for the World Cup, Ukraine failed in the group runners-up playoffs to Germany .
2003 World Cup in the USA
The 2003 World Cup should actually take place again in the People's Republic of China . Because of the SARS epidemic, the tournament was moved to the USA at short notice. This was the second time that the World Cup took place in the USA. For Spain, the qualification was only slightly better. After all, you could win two games: 6: 1 against Iceland and 2: 1 against Russia . All other games were lost without their own goal. After Russia, Iceland and Italy, only fourth place was taken again. Group winners Russia qualified directly, Iceland failed in the play-offs of the group runners-up to England, which failed in the play-off finals to France , whereby France qualified for the first time.
World Cup 2007 in the People's Republic of China
Four years later the World Cup took place in the People's Republic of China for the second time . Spain met Denmark, Finland , Poland and Belgium in qualifying . Third place was taken with four wins and two draws and two defeats. Only group winners Denmark qualified for the World Cup.
World Cup 2011 in Germany
The qualification for the World Cup, the second World Cup in Europe, went a little better. In the group stage, they finished second behind England, ahead of Austria , Turkey and Malta . The qualification was missed in the penultimate game due to a 2-2 home game against England. Since they lost 0-1 in England, the direct comparison spoke for England, because both had won all games against the other group opponents. England then prevailed against Switzerland in the group winners' play-off round and went to the World Cup. With 16 goals Adriana Martín was the best scorer in the qualification.
2015 World Cup in Canada
Four years later, the Spaniards finally qualified for the World Cup. After the team previously two years for the EURO 2013 had qualified and retired there in the quarter-finals, she was with the draw for the qualifiers for the World Cup in Canada already assigned pot 2 and the group was randomly assigned to Italy, which at the EURO 2013 also had reached the quarter-finals. Spain were the only qualifiers to start with five home games, all of which were won: 6-0 against Estonia , 2-0 against Italy, 1-0 against Romania , 3-2 against the Czech Republic and 12-0 against Macedonia . But they didn't lose any of the return matches either and only gave up a point in the goalless draw in Italy. With the 2-0 win in Romania on the penultimate matchday, the team qualified for the World Cup early. Italy then failed in the playoffs of the group runners-up to the Dutch women , who also qualified for the first time.
When the groups were drawn, Spain was not seeded and was drawn to the group with South American champions Brazil . Other opponents were World Cup newcomers Costa Rica and South Korea . Spain had not played against any of these teams before the World Cup. The Spaniards started the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Costa Rica, followed by a narrow 0-1 defeat against Brazil. The decisive group game was lost 2-1 to South Korea, which meant that Spain were eliminated from the bottom of the group. Ignacio Quereda's term of office ended with the preliminary round , his successor was Jorge Vilda, under whom the first two games of his tenure were won against China.
World Cup 2019 in France
Spain was the only team to qualify for the third World Cup in Europe with eight wins, eliminating Finland, Israel, Austria and Serbia. In France, the Spanish met China , Germany and, for the first time, South Africa . The Iberians fell behind against World Cup newcomers South Africa in the 25th minute, but were able to win a World Cup game for the first time with two penalties converted by Jennifer Hermoso and a counter goal. Against Germany, the Spaniards were the better team, especially in the first half, but couldn't use their chances. The German team's first chance at scoring led to the only goal of the game. Even before the game against China, it was clear that both teams would reach the round of 16 in the event of a tie based on the results of Group E and F. They managed to do this even after 90 minutes without a goal. In the second round, the Spaniards met defending champions USA and lost 2-1.
Games
The Spaniards have played seven World Cup games so far, one of which has been won, two have ended in a draw and four have been lost. They played against teams from all confederations except Oceania, but so far only against one South American champion. All games are unique so far and the first four are the first against these teams. Marta Corredera , Irene Paredes and Alexia Putellas were used in all seven games, Jennifer Hermoso is the Spain's top goalscorer in World Cup games with three goals.
