The article contains a detailed description of the Thai national soccer team for women at world championships . Thailand qualified for the 2015 World Cup for the first time in 2014. The team is the sixth Asian team to qualify for a World Cup and, after the Republic of China and Equatorial Guinea, the third country from which only women were able to qualify for the World Cup. After their first participation, Thailand was the second worst Asian team in 23rd place in the all-time ranking and deteriorated in 2019 with three defeats to 28th place.

The tournaments

World Cup 1991 in the People's Republic of China

Since the first women's World Cup was held in the People's Republic of China , the Chinese women did not have to qualify. Nevertheless, the team took part in the Asian women's soccer championship in 1991 , which served as a qualification for the other Asian teams. Thailand met China in the preliminary round and lost 1:10. Before that, there had been a 3-0 win against South Korea . In the last group game, in which it was all about second place, it was only enough for a goalless draw against the Republic of China . So both teams were tied and now the goals against the People's Republic of China were decisive. As the Republic of China only lost 3-0 and scored six more goals against South Korea, Thailand was only third in the group and eliminated. The People's Republic of China ultimately won the championship with five victories and would therefore have been athletically qualified. Japan qualified as runner-up and the Republic of China as third.

World Cup 1995 in Sweden

Two years later, Thailand not participated in the AFC Asian Cup Women 1993 in part and could thus not apply to qualify . Asia was represented there only by the People's Republic of China and Japan.

World Cup 1999 in the USA

Also at the AFC Asian Cup Women 1997 Thailand did not participate and thus could not for the third World Cup qualifying . Again the People's Republic of China and Japan and, for the first time, North Korea for Asia took part in the World Cup.

2003 World Cup in the USA

The 2003 World Cup should actually take place again in the People's Republic of China . Because of the SARS epidemic, the tournament was moved to the USA at short notice. This was the second time that the World Cup took place in the USA. Thailand hosted the 2003 Asian Women's Soccer Cup , which served as qualification for the World Cup and was postponed from April to June due to the SARS crisis. In the group stage, Thailand won 3-0 against Singapore , but then lost 6-0 against South and then North Korea 0-14. The subsequent 3-1 against Hong Kong was then useless. The two Koreas as well as Japan and the People's Republic of China qualified for the World Cup.

World Cup 2007 in the People's Republic of China

Four years later, the World Cup took place in the People's Republic of China for the second time , which meant that China did not have to qualify. However, China took part in the 2006 Asian Women's Football Championship , which served as a qualification for the other teams in the AFC. Thailand had to qualify for the Asian Cup by playing two games against Indonesia and Singapore , both of which were won: 4-0 and 5-1. At the finals, which took place in Australia for the first time , as Australia - in particular to offer the men's national team better chances of qualifying for a World Cup - had switched to the Asian association. Thailand then met the Australians in the group stage , but initially Myanmar , who were defeated 2-1. After a 0: 9 against North Korea and a 0:11 against South Korea, Thailand had no chance to qualify before the last game against Australia. The 0: 5 was then not decisive. Australia then also reached the final against the People's Republic of China. After North Korea was better twice in a row, this was able to win the title for the eighth time and to this day for the last time and thus set a record for official continental championships, which Germany only set in 2013 . Australia and North Korea qualified as runners-up and third, Japan over the intercontinental play-off games against Mexico .

World Cup 2011 in Germany

For the last time Thailand could not qualify for the World Cup in Germany . First , Thailand qualified for the 2010 Asian women's soccer championship with two wins against Uzbekistan (6: 1) and the Iranians (8: 1) . In the championship, which took place in the People's Republic of China , the Thais lost to North Korea (0: 3) and Japan (0: 4), but were able to defeat Myanmar 2: 0. Thus, Thailand retired as third party. The People's Republic of China could not use the home advantage and only came in third and so for the first time a women's World Cup took place without China. For Asia, Australia, Japan - which then became the first Asian team to become soccer world champions - and North Korea started - which, however, attracted attention through doping offenses.

2015 World Cup in Canada

In qualifying for the World Cup in Canada , for which the Asians were granted five starting places after the increase in the field of participants, Thailand was then able to qualify for the first time and also benefited from North Korea's ban because of the doping offenses at the 2011 World Cup Qualifying tournament in Bangladesh defeated the hosts 9-0, the Philippines 1-0 and the Iranians 5-1. At the women's soccer Asian Cup in 2014 , the first game against the People's Republic of China was lost 7-0 and then against South Korea 4-0. This meant that Thailand had no chance of becoming Asian champions, but the last group game should decide who should move into the game for 5th place. Thailand won 2-1 against Myanmar and were allowed to play for the last Asian World Cup ticket against hosts Vietnam . After a goalless first half, Kanjana Sung-ngoen scored two goals. Vietnam managed to hit the connection shortly before the end of the game, but it came too late and Thailand qualified for the World Cup for the first time.

In addition to the new Asian champions Japan, Australia qualified second, China third and South Korea fourth.

When the groups were drawn, Thailand was not seeded and group B with European champions Germany was drawn.

In addition, the team met runner-up European champions Norway and Ivory Coast , which also took part for the first time. Thailand clearly lost the two games against Norway and Germany, but won 3-2 against Ivory Coast and finished third in the group. However, this was not enough to advance.

World Cup 2019 in France

In qualifying for the World Cup in France, for which the Asians were again granted five starting places, Thailand qualified as the second team for the World Cup finals by reaching the semi-finals at the 2018 Asian Women's Football Championship . For this championship, which will take place in Jordan in April 2018, Thailand qualified at a tournament in the Palestinian Territories by winning against the host and Chinese Taipei. At the finals in Jordan, the first game against China was lost 4-0, but wins against hosts Jordan and the Philippines both reached the semi-finals of the Asian Cup and the World Cup finals.

In France, the Thais met defending champions USA and lost 0:13 - highest defeat in a World Cup game, and for the first time Chile and Sweden . After a 1: 5 against Sweden they still had the chance to reach the round of 16 with a record win against Sweden. But they also lost this game with 0: 2. With 1:20 goals they set a new negative record.
