The article provides a detailed account of the Jamaican women's national soccer team at World Cups . Jamaica was able to qualify for the 2019 World Cup finals for the first time at the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup 2018 and is the fifth CONCACAF team and first team from the Caribbean to succeed. Jamaica could not win a game and was eliminated as fourth in the group.

World Cup 1991 in the People's Republic of China

Jamaica also wanted to qualify for the first women's World Cup , in which the CONCACAF teams were granted a starting place. The 1991 CONCACAF Women's Championship served as qualification for eight teams. For the Jamaicans, who met in Haiti , Canada and Costa Rica , it was the first ever internationals. They lost all three games, with only against Costa Rica at 1: 2 a goal could be scored and the team was eliminated as the group bottom.

World Cup 1995 in Sweden

For the CONCACAF Women's Championship 1994 , which served as qualification for the first women's World Cup in Europe, where there were now two starting places for CONCACAF, only five teams had registered, including Jamaica. At the tournament in Montreal , Canada , each team played once against each other. Jamaica, which had not played since 1991, lost all games: 0: 7 against Canada, 1: 2 against Trinidad and Tobago , 1: 3 against Mexico and 0:10 against the USA , so that the team was only bottom of the group.

World Cup 1999 in the USA

Jamaica had not entered for the third World Cup or the CONCACAF Women's Championship, which again served as a qualification in 1998 .

2003 World Cup in the USA

The 2003 World Cup should actually take place again in the People's Republic of China . Because of the SARS epidemic, the tournament was moved to the USA at short notice. This was the second time that the World Cup took place in the USA. To qualify for the World Cup, Jamaica first had to qualify for the 2002 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup . This was achieved through victories against Puerto Rico (8-0 and 3-0) in the first round and a 2-0 home game against Haiti as well as a goalless draw in Haiti in the second round. At the Gold Cup, however, they only managed to score 1: 2 in the last group game against Haiti. Previously they lost 2-0 to Costa Rica and 9-0 to Canada, so that the Jamaicans were eliminated as the bottom of the group.

World Cup 2007 in the People's Republic of China

Four years later the World Cup took place in the People's Republic of China for the second time . At the 2006 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup , which again served as qualification , Jamaica lost the game for third place against Mexico 3-0, which then failed in the intercontinental playoffs to Japan.

For the Gold Cup, Jamaica won the first round against St. Lucia (5: 0), Antigua and Barbuda (10: 0) and St. Kitts and Nevis (11: 0) as well as victories in the second round against Bermuda (7-0) and Haiti (2-0) qualified. There they met Panama in the quarter-finals and won 2-0. In the semi-finals, Jamaica lost 4-0 to Canada, which meant that they missed direct qualification for the World Cup finals.

2015 World Cup in Canada

For the World Cup in the north of the subcontinent, the number of participants was increased to 24 and the CONCACAF teams received three fixed starting places for the host in addition to the automatic starting place and the opportunity to qualify for fourth place in the Gold Cup against fourth place in the South American Championship in internal American playoffs. Jamaica qualified for the Gold Cup in two rounds, with St. Lucia being defeated 14-0 and the Dominican Republic 7-0 in the first round . In the second round Puerto Rico (4: 1), Bermuda (9: 1) and Haiti (2: 0) were defeated, which means that the team qualified as group winners for the Gold Cup. The final was then lost 1-0 to hosts Trinidad and Tobago. At the Gold Cup , only the first game was won against Martinique (6: 0), but then lost to Costa Rica 1: 2 and Mexico 1: 3, which meant that the team was eliminated as third party and missed the World Cup finals.

In qualifying , the Jamaicans prevailed against Panama for third place at the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup 2018 and thus qualified for the first time for the World Cup finals. For the Gold Cup, Jamaica had qualified in two rounds. They had defeated Guadeloupe 13-0 and Martinique 3-0 in the first round at a tournament in Haiti . With a 2-2 deficit against the hosts, they became group first because they had scored three more goals. In the second round they sat down with four wins against Antigua and Barbuda (9: 0), Bermuda (4: 0), Trinidad and Tobago (4: 1, first win against the team from Trinidad and Tobago) and Cuba (6: 1) and reached the Gold Cup as group winners. In this they lost the opening game against Canada with 0: 2, then won for the first time against the participants of the last World Cup Costa Rica with 1: 0 and against Cuba with 9: 0. In the semi-finals they lost 6-0 to hosts USA and faced Panama in the game for third place. After 90 minutes it was 1: 1, after another 30 minutes 2: 2, so that it came to a penalty shoot-out in which Jamaica secured the World Cup ticket with 4: 2. 20 years after the first and so far only World Cup participation of the Jamaican men's team, the women were the first Caribbean women's team to qualify for the World Cup finals. Jamaica's top scorer in the finals was Jody Brown with four goals, the most goals total was scored by Khadija Shaw , who had scored 16 goals in seven qualifying games and three in the Gold Cup.

In France, Jamaica faced Brazil in their first game and lost 3-0. In the second game they met Italy for the first time and lost 5-0. They also played against Australia for the first time in their third group game. After 0: 2 deficit was Havana Solaun score the first World Cup goal for Jamaica. The "Reggae Girlz" then had to accept two more goals and were eliminated as fourth in the group.
