European Women's Football Championship 2013 / Spain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article covers the Spanish national team at the 2013 European Women's Football Championship in Sweden . Spain took part in a European Championship finals for the second time since 1997.

qualification

Spain was drawn for the qualification in Group 2 and met Germany , Romania , Switzerland and Turkey and for the first time Kazakhstan . Spain won the opening game in Turkey 10: 1 and took over the top of the table, which was then held by a 2: 2 in the home game against Germany. Due to the defeat in the second leg, the Spaniards lost the championship lead and had to fear for the relegation place after the 3: 4 defeat in Switzerland. But since the Swiss lost in Romania and Kazakhstan, the Spaniards could reach the playoff games as the worst runners-up in the group. Here they met Scotland and were able to achieve a favorable starting position for the second leg in Spain with a 1-1 draw in Scotland. This also ended 1: 1 after 90 minutes, so it went into overtime. In this first Kim Little was able to bring the Schottinen into the lead in the 98th minute. Silvia Meseguer equalized in the 113th minute, but due to the away goals rule , it would not have been enough to qualify. In the 119th minute, Scottish goalkeeper Gemma Fay saved a penalty from Verónica Boquete , but in the second minute of extra time stoppage time, he scored the winning goal that secured qualification. Verónica Boquete was also the best Spanish goalscorer with 11 goals and took second place on the list of goalscorers with two other players.
