This article covers the Italian national team at the 2013 European Women's Football Championship in Sweden . Italy took part in all previous finals and was runner-up in 1993 and 1997.

qualification

Italy was drawn into Group 1 for the qualification and met Bosnia & Herzegovina and Macedonia as well as Greece , Poland and Russia for the first time . Italy remained the only team in the qualification without conceding a goal and was able to place itself as the first team after hosts Sweden on June 16, 2012 for the EM. Only in the last game in Greece, which was meaningless for the qualification, the Italians gave up a point. Against Macedonia, the 30-year-old record win against Japan was set with two 9-0 wins. The Russians had to qualify as runner-up for the European Championship through the playoff games against Austria. The best scorer in the qualification was record national player Patrizia Panico with 9 goals.

The preliminary roster with 27 players was named on June 17, 2013. Laura Giuliani (goal), Michela Rodella (defense), Federica Di Criscio (defense), Marta Carissimi (midfield) and Pamela Conti (midfield) were deleted from the provisional squad .

The most experienced player in the squad is captain Patrizia Panico , who has already played more than 180 international matches and scored 98 goals.

European Championship finals

As in 2009, the Italian team met hosts Sweden , Denmark and, for the first time at a European Championship, Finland and played all games in Örjans vall in Halmstad .

After an opening draw against Finland, the second game against Denmark was won and thus the second place in the group secured, which was followed by a defeat against the hosts. As runners-up in the group, the Italians met Germany as in 2009 and had to travel to Växjö to do so . As in 2009, the end came in the quarter-finals.
