The Federación de Fútbol de Chile (FFC for short) is the Chilean football association. It was founded on June 19, 1895, which makes it the second oldest association in South America . She is also a founding member of CONMEBOL, which was founded in 1916 . She is responsible for the Chilean national soccer team and for the following associations:

  • Asociación Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (original name: Asociación Central de Fútbol ), which consists of the professional clubs of Chile. She organizes professional football in Chile.
  • Asociación Nacional de Fútbol Amateur , made up of amateur clubs. She organizes amateur football in Chile.

Admission and organization

The association is a member of FIFA , CONMEBOL and the Comité Olímpico de Chile .

The association is responsible for the Asociación Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (ANFP) and the Asociación Nacional de Fútbol Amateur (ANFA). These two associations are managed by the Instituto Nacional del Fútbol (INAF), which was founded in 1996 to train referees and coaches .

history

The FFC was founded after a meeting in Valparaíso on June 19, 1895 and was chaired by the journalist David Scott. This organization was a pioneer in football organization in Chile, but with very little leeway. She got into trouble with the Federación Sportiva Nacional , the federation founded in 1909 to ensure that sport is protected in the country.

After the name was translated into the Spanish language (name: Asociación de Football de Chile ), the FFC was provisionally admitted to FIFA in 1913 and became a full member in 1914. In 1916, during the first Copa América , CONMEBOL was founded and Asociocón de Football de Chile was a founding member. The other founding members were Brazil , Argentina and Uruguay .

In 1917 the dispute between the AFC and the FSN was settled. But in the early 1920s, the Federación de Football de Chile finally appeared in Santiago, which took over the representation of national football in October 1923. This happened before the withdrawal of the Asociación de Football de Chile from CONMEBOL to create a parallel federation. In light of this situation, Chile was banned from FIFA in 1925 .

This ban demanded a quick solution and on January 24, 1926 the FFC merged with the AFC. After unification, the organization called itself Federación de Football de Chile and moved its headquarters to Valparaíso. It was recognized by CONMEBOL in April and by FIFA, temporarily, in July.

The Federación de Fútbol de Chile applied in 1954 to host the 1962 World Cup . On June 10, 1956, Chile then prevailed against Argentina.

On August 15, 2006, the Federación de Fútbol de Chile presented its candidacy for the 2008 U-20 Women's World Cup , the fourth edition of the tournament. On September 15, 2006, the FIFA Executive Committee decided to award this competition to Chile. This was the first women's football competition, regardless of age, to be held in South America.
