Jonelle Filigno (born September 24, 1990 in Mississauga , Ontario ) is a Canadian former soccer player . She played for Sky Blue FC and as a striker for the national team .

Career

Filigno played for Rutgers University's team , the Rutgers Scarlet Knights , from 2008 to 2013 .

In 2008 she won the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship with Canada and took part in the 2008 Women's U-20 World Cup. She made her first international A match at the age of 17 on January 16, 2008 in a 4-0 draw against the USA in the four-nation tournament . With the Canadian national soccer team she took part in the 2008 Olympic Games . The Canadians reached the quarter-finals there as one of the two best thirds in the group, where they were eliminated with a 1: 2 nV against the later gold medalist USA. In August 2009, she tore a cruciate ligament in a Rutgers University test match . In 2010 she won the 2010 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup with Canada , where she and Amy Rodriguez finished fourth in the top scorers' list with four goals . In 2011 she won the Cyprus Cup with Canada and was appointed as the youngest player in the Canadian squad for the World Cup. She was used in the opening game against Germany and thus came to her first World Cup game. She was also used in the other two group games, but was eliminated with Canada after three defeats in the preliminary round.

She was also nominated for the 2012 Olympic Games . She came on for her first appearance in the second group game when she was substituted on in the 74th minute. In the following four games she was in the starting line-up, but was replaced towards the end of the second half. In the quarter-final match against Great Britain , she scored 1-0 (final score 2-0). In the game for third place against France , she made her 50th international match.

In 2015 she was used at the World Cup in her own country .
