history

On the way to becoming a UEFA and FIFA member

On May 21, 2012, the FIFA Executive Committee decided to allow Kosovar football teams to host friendly matches against other national teams. This decision met with fierce opposition from the Serbian Football Association , but also from UEFA, as it was taken without consulting them. On July 17, 2012, the FIFA Executive Committee decided to postpone the debate on the implementation of the May decision to September 2012. At that time, too, no decision was made, but in December the Executive Committee decided that Kosovar clubs and all selections, except the men's senior team, could play friendly matches against other FIFA members.

On January 13, 2014, an emergency committee of the FIFA allowed Kosovar clubs and association teams to play international friendly matches against FIFA member associations. However, the hoisting of the national flag, the national anthem and jerseys with the national badge were prohibited. In February 2016, the women's national team played against Albania and won 3-1.

The UEFA decided on 3 May 2016 in Budapest, Kosovo receive officially the 55th member. He was accepted as the 210th member of FIFA on May 13, 2016.

The first official international match as a FIFA member of the women's national team was lost on March 1, 2017 in Alanya ( Turkey ) as part of the Alanya Cup with 0: 5 against Poland . The following two tournament games against Romania and Turkey were also lost (0: 3 and 2: 4). The team had already been registered for qualifying for the 2019 World Cup a few weeks earlier , where they will meet Albania (hosts), Greece and Malta in the pre-qualification in April 2017 as part of a mini-tournament . There they lost their first competitive game after a 2-1 lead with an own goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time with 2: 3 against Albania. After the second game, a 6-0 defeat against Greece, the team no longer had a chance to qualify for the actual qualification and thus for the World Cup.

In qualifying for the European Championship in 2021 , the Kosovars won their first game against Turkey 2-0 and thus their first competitive game.
