The Montenegrin national soccer team is the official national soccer team of the south-eastern European state of Montenegro .

formation

Until 2006, the state of Montenegro was part of the Federation of Serbia and Montenegro and thus the Serbian-Montenegrin national football team also existed . Then Montenegro became an independent state and the Serbian selection in place of the Serbian-Montenegrin selection, since Serbia is considered the political successor state of Serbia-Montenegro. The Montenegrin Football Association had to be re-established.

history

While the Montenegrin men's national team made their first international match on March 24, 2007, it lasted until March 13, 2012 for the first international match of the Montenegrin women's national soccer team, who lost 3-2 to their neighbors from Bosnia-Herzegovina . Tina Malesija scored the first goal for the team in the 58th minute to equalize 1-1. Two days later, it was 2-2 against the same opponent. In April 2013, the team took part in the qualification for a World Cup for the first time and reached the tournament in Lithuania after a 3: 3 against the Faroe Islands with a 2-0 win against Georgia and after another draw against Lithuania, the actual qualification which started in fall 2013. After seven defeats in the first seven games, Montenegro had no chance to qualify for the World Cup three match days before the end of qualification.
