The Cyprus Cup 2012 was the 5th edition of the women's football tournament for national teams , which has been held annually since 2008, and took place from February 28 to March 6, 2012, as before, at various venues in the Republic of Cyprus . The tournament was organized by the English, Dutch and Scottish associations. France won the competition for the first time by beating defending champions Canada 2-0 in the final.

The venues were the GSP Stadium in Nicosia , the GSZ Stadium and Ammochostos Stadium in Larnaka , Tasos Markou in Paralimni and the Dasaki Stadium in Achna .

mode

Twelve national teams took part in the tournament. The eight teams with the highest ratings formed groups A and B, the four weaker teams formed group C. First, the teams in their group played each against each other for the placement. First the best score, then the direct comparison and only then the goal difference is decisive for the placement. Then proceed as follows:

  • Game for 11th place: The fourth-placed team in group C against the worse fourth-placed team in groups A or B.
  • Game for 9th place: The third-placed team in group C against the better fourth-placed team in groups A or B.
  • Game for 7th place: The second-placed team in group C against the worse third-placed team in groups A and B.
  • Match for 5th place: Winner of Group C against the better third-placed team in Groups A and B.
  • Match for 3rd place: The teams placed second in groups A and B.
  • Final game: The winners of groups A and B play for the tournament victory.

If it was a draw after the regular playing time of the placement games, extra time followed and then possibly a penalty shoot-out .

Since FIFA classified the games as friendlies , each team was allowed to make six substitutions per game.
