Theresa Eslund (born Theresa Nielsen on July 20, 1986 ) is a Danish soccer player . She participated with the Danish national team in the 2013 and 2017 European Championships .
Career
societies
Nielsen started playing football at Rikken FC . She joined Brøndby IF in 2009 through Hvidovre IF and Ballerup-Skovlunde Fodbold . With the club she won three times in a row from 2011 to 2013 the double from the Danish championship in the 3F Ligaen and winning the national cup . In 2017, Nielsen played for Norwegian first division club Vålerenga Oslo before moving to Seattle Reign FC at the beginning of 2018 . During the American winter she played on loan for Melbourne City FC in the Australian summer . In January 2020 she returned to her home country, where she is now playing for Brøndby IF again - but only on June 6th due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
National team
After Nielsen had already been a junior national player, she made her debut in March 2008 in the Danish national team. At the Algarve Cup , she was used in four games and reached the final with her team, the last participation of the Danes so far, against the USA , which was lost 2-1. It was then used in a qualifier for the 2009 European Championships in May, but was not nominated for the European Championship. At the Algarve Cup 2011 , she scored her first international goal in the first group game against China to win 1-0, the only victory for the Danes at this tournament. Her first major tournament was the 2013 European Championship , for which she was appointed to the squad by national coach Kenneth Heiner-Møller . There she played all five tournament games of the selection until she was eliminated in the semifinals against Norway . She played her 100th international match on October 22, 2016 together with her namesake Sanne Troelsgaard Nielsen .
At the 2017 European Championships , she reached the final with her team, but lost it 2: 4 against the hosts . On the way there, she scored the goal of the 2-1 victory for the Danes in the quarter-finals against defending champions Germany . For the 2019 World Cup, she could not qualify with her team .
