The 1997 Algarve Cup was the fourth edition of the annual tournament for women's national football teams and took place between March 10 and 16, 1997 in the Portuguese Algarve . Defending champion Norway won the tournament ahead of China and Sweden .
Participating teams
Eight teams took part in the invitation tournament in 1997.
Tournament course
The eight participating teams were divided into two groups and met in a round-robin tournament . In the final round that followed, the fourth, third and second group players played for seventh, fifth and third places, and the group winners in the final for the tournament victory.
