Nadia Nadim (born January 2, 1988 in Kabul , Afghanistan ) is a Danish football player of Afghan descent.

Life

Nadim was born in Afghanistan . After her father, an army general, was abducted and killed by the Taliban in 2000 , her mother fled to Denmark with her and her four sisters . From then on, Nadim grew up in Aarhus , where she began her football career at GUG Boldklub FC. This was followed by positions at Aalborg BK , B 52 / Aalborg FC and Team Viborg Fodbold. In the summer of 2007 she then joined Skovbakken IK and won the Danish Cup competition with her club in 2009 , with Nadim scoring the decisive goal to make it 4-3 on penalties for her team. After four years at Skovbakken, she left the club on June 4, 2012 and moved to record champions Fortuna Hjørring . With Hjørring she reached the last 16 of the 2012/13 UEFA Women's Champions League , in which the team was eliminated by Kopparbergs / Göteborg FC . As runner-up in 2013, Hjørring also took part in the 2013/14 UEFA Women's Champions League , where they again failed in the round of 16 against eventual finalists Tyresö FF . Nadim switched to NWSL participant Sky Blue FC on loan for a few months in June 2014 , for whom she scored seven goals in just six games. She spent the 2015 season again at Sky Blue before moving to Portland Thorns FC before the 2016 season. At the end of 2017, Nadim moved to Manchester City in the FA Women's Super League .

In addition to soccer, she studies medicine at Aarhus University .

National team

In the spring of 2009, Nadim took Danish citizenship and made his debut on March 4, 2009 at the Algarve Cup in a game against the USA for the Danish national team . She took part in the European Championships in 2009, 2013 and 2017. At the EM 2013 she and her team had to go to penalties in both the quarter-finals against France and in the semifinals against Norway . Nadim was the only Dane to convert her penalty in both penalty shootouts. Since two Danes did not succeed against Norway, Denmark was eliminated.
