Merete Pedersen (born June 30, 1973 in Sæby ) is a former Danish football player . The player played for the Danish national team for 16 years and is their record scorer.

Pedersen played during her career for Danish clubs Vejle BK and Odense BK in the 3F Ligaen , the Sportfreunde Siegen in the German Women's Bundesliga (15 goals) and ASD Torres Calcio Femminile in the Italian Serie A . In 2001 she won the Danish championship with Odense and took part in the first edition of the UEFA Women's Cup , where she reached the quarter-finals with her team. There she failed because of the eventual winner 1. FFC Frankfurt . At the UEFA Women's Cup 2004/05 she was able to take part with Torres Calcio, since the Italian champions Foroni Verona FC , who were actually ready to start, went bankrupt. She reached the quarter-finals again with Torres, but was eliminated against the English champions Arsenal . In the competition, she scored five goals.

National teams

In 1992 and 1993 she played 13 games with the Danish U-21 team , won the Nordic Cup in 1992 and finished third in 1993. During this time, she made her first international match at the Open Nordic Cup in Cyprus on March 11, 1993, when she lost 2-0 to the USA . After a second game in the same tournament, she had to wait three years for her third international match. This took place at the Algarve Cup in 1996 and she scored her first international goal against Iceland . In the same year she was part of the Danish squad that took part in the first ever women's Olympic football tournament at the Atlanta Olympics. However, she was only substituted in the last group game, which lost 3-1 to Sweden, immediately after the 2-0 draw, but could not turn the game around. It is the last game of the Danes at the Olympic Games to date. Her next major tournament was the European Championship in 1997 , in which she was used in the three group games, but was only able to score 2: 1 in the 2: 2 against Italy . The Danes were eliminated as the last group. In 1998 she reached the final of the Algarve Cup with Denmark , but lost it 1: 4 against Norway . In 1999 she played the three group games at the World Cup in the USA , but remained without a goal and was eliminated with her team after the preliminary round. The Danes also missed the 2000 Olympic football tournament in Sydney . In 2001 she reached the final of the Algarve Cup again , but lost it 3-0 against Sweden. On September 26, 2004, she managed a "flawless" hat-trick in the qualifying game against Belgium with goals in the 7th, 11th and 15th minutes and thus for the first time three goals in a game and the goal for the 6-0 final score . On November 6th, 2004 you scored the first and last goal to make it 3-1 in the first victory of the Danes in the USA against the USA. At the EM 2005 she made her 100th international match in the last group game against Finland , but was eliminated by the 1: 2. In her 102nd international match on September 25, 2005, she replaced Gitte Krogh as the record scorer in Denmark with her 47th international goal. In 2007 she was again in the final of the Algarve Cup , but lost it to the USA. At the 2007 World Cup she did not score a goal and was eliminated with her team again in the preliminary round and then lost the two qualifying games for the 2008 Olympic Games against Sweden. In 2008 she reached the final of the Algarve Cup again , but lost again to the USA. On May 28, 2008 you scored three goals in an international match for the last time in a 6-1 qualifier against Slovakia. On March 11, 2009, she played her 136th and last international match against Germany in the game for third place at the Algarve Cup and won 1-0. In total, she scored 65 goals for Denmark and is still the record scorer in her country. No male player scored more goals for Denmark. On March 7, 2007, she beat Poul Nielsen's 52-goal record from 1925.
