International women's indoor soccer tournament
The international women's indoor soccer tournament was an indoor soccer tournament for women's teams that was organized annually by TuS Jöllenbeck in Bielefeld - Jöllenbeck . It is considered to be the best-staffed women's indoor soccer tournament in the world.
history
The tournament was first held in November 1977, initially with six teams from the East Westphalia-Lippe region . It has been held annually since 1979 (with the exception of 1995 and 1997) in January. Due to the fire in the sports hall of the Jöllenbeck secondary school, the 1995 tournament was canceled. To reopen the hall, the 1997 event was held in December 1996.
In 1980 a national team took part for the first time with FC Schalke 04 , and in the following year KBC Duisburg came to Jöllenbeck as German runner-up. In 1982, B 1909 Odense from Denmark was the first international team to take part and immediately became the tournament winner. Since 1984 at least two participants have always come from other European countries. In 1990, a team from the GDR took part with the HSG Uni Jena (since 2003 FF USV Jena ) .
Since 2000, the field of participants has consisted of eight teams, three or four of which come from abroad, most of which are top teams. After the host TuS Jöllenbeck (until 1994), Herford SV or FC Gütersloh 2000 usually played the role of “local hero” . As a committed partner of Bielefeld Sports, the Sparkasse has been the title sponsor for the tournament since the 20th edition (1999).
Since the 25th edition in 2004, the tournament has been nicknamed world class in connection with the year. In 1999 for the first time over 2,000 spectators came to the sports hall of the secondary school in Jöllenbeck, in 2010 there were around 2,500 on the two days of the tournament. In 2014 the tournament was canceled for financial reasons. Four years later, the club stopped the tournament due to a decline in attendance.
