Niels Poul "Tist" Nielsen (born December 25, 1891 in Copenhagen , † August 9, 1962 there ) was a Danish football player . With 52 goals in just 38 internationals, he still has the highest percentage of international goalscorers with 50 or more goals and is also one of the most successful Danish national goal scorers . With the national team he won the silver medal at the 1912 Olympic Games . He remained loyal to his club Kjøbenhavns Boldklub throughout his career.

biography

Poul Nielsen started his football career at KB . On May 5, 1912 he made his debut in the national team. At that time, at 18 years and 131 days, he was the youngest player to ever play in the national team. This record was broken 8 years later by Valdemar Laursen . At the Olympic Games in 1912 he was part of the squad, but was only used in the 4-1 victory against the Netherlands, in this victory he was able to enter the scorers list for the first time in his third game. After the Olympic tournament he was part of the team and was able to score 22 goals in the following 9 games. With KB he became champion in 1913, 1914, 1917, 1918, 1922 and 1925. His national team career ended in 1925. Of his 52 goals, he scored 26 against the Norwegian and 15 against the Swedish national football team (against the Swedes he scored 6 goals in a 10-0 win). He is the first player to score four goals in one game against Germany : On October 26, 1913, he scored the goals for a 4-1 victory in the 5th, 7th, 42nd and 87th minutes. His record of 52 goals for Denmark was set by Jon Dahl Tomasson in the World Cup game against Japan on June 24, 2010 , who resigned as a national player after the World Cup.

At the age of 70, Poul Nielsen died on August 9, 1962 in Copenhagen.
