Career

Valdemar Laursen was born in Frederiksberg in the greater Copenhagen area in 1900 . Throughout his club career he played at Kjøbenhavns Boldklub , founded in 1876 , one of the oldest football clubs outside of Great Britain. With the club he was four times Danish champion.

On October 20, 1918 he made his debut in the Danish national team against Sweden . Only Harald Nielsen , Michael Laudrup and Ove Andersen were younger. In his debut game against the Swedes at Ullevi in Gothenburg , Laursen scored the 1-0 opening goal in a 2-1 win. With the national team he won the Nordic Football Championship in 1924-28 . Laursen played his last of a total of 44 international matches in a friendly against Germany in 1934 . Five years later Pauli Jørgensen surpassed Laursen's record for international matches, which he held until 1961.

Together with Harry Bendixen and Poul Jensen he wrote the book "Tre på Landsholdet." ("Three from the national team.")

After his career as a player he became a referee. He whistled the round of 16 between Great Britain and the Netherlands at the Olympic Games in London in 1948 . In total, he headed eight international matches as a FIFA referee between 1938 and 1948.
